Before You Ride

Six dollars a ride — and it’s one of the five attractions covered by the Pier Pass.
Riders 42 inches and up ride alone. Under that, a parent climbs on and rides alongside — the horses carry both just fine.
It arrived in 1989, when Hal Griffith remodeled the pier he had just acquired — one of the first things he set turning on a pier the city had once meant to tear down.
The carousel turns indoors, under the roof of the 1902 pier shed, so the weather stays outside where it belongs.
